RUSAL starts preservation of Nadvoitsy smelter due to sanctions
MOSCOW, Aug 6 (PRIME) -- Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL has started a temporary shutdown of electrolysis capacities of its Nadvoitsy Aluminum Smelter in the republic of Karelia due to the U.S. sanctions, a representative of the company told PRIME on Monday.
The smelter lost its sales markets and stable raw materials supplies due to the sanctions, while its products became non-demanded, as its production was fully oriented at the U.S. market, he said.
“That’s why since April 2018 the Nadvoitsy Aluminum Smelter has been working only for a warehouse, generating significant losses. Due to the situation that occurred at the Nadvoitsy Aluminum Smelter after the introduction of sanctions, in order to reduce losses, RUSAL is forced to start a temporary shutdown of electrolysis capacities of the Nadvoitsy Aluminum Smelter in August,” the representative said.
